The Dorset Broadcasting Corporation finds itself in the dock once again after refusing to bow to pressure from the general public to air the shock Christmas Number One Single Cruisin This Christmas by Puff-Ta and the Gay Gordons.
The Corporation - which has a chequered history when it comes to Non-Hate Crime Avoidance - insists that the single is borderline homophobic and that those protesting its ban are all members of Far Right adjacent cultural terrorist groups.
Amongst those critical of the DBC's failure to play the track - which has registered more than 25 downloads via the Threadbone Corporation's Narrow Band Dial-Up Digital Multi-Portal Streaming Service - are members of Gay Gordans' tribute band Puff-Diddy and the Mincing Malcolms whose own single Seed The World has become an anthem for re-wilders and climate change activists countywide.
There is also, according to some with long memories, a hint of hypocracy in the air. In 1938, the DBC saw fit to broadcast a song thought at the time to be sympathetic to the appeasement movement. Anne Schluss and the Gurr-Belles' We Love You Hitler; Yes We Do!! was the go-to thé dansant number amongst a certain social class but was largely shunned by the broadcast media mindful that it might give the impression that Adolf Hitler was a popular European liberal democrat* responsible only for allowing drivers to reach 100mph on the autobahns without fear of prosecution. The DBC aired the song at least 356,428 times.
* There is some irony in this. The current comparatively dirigiste manifestation of the Illiberal Non-Dems seems keen on life-imprisonment for those exceeding 20mph [Political History Ed]
Meanwhile the folks currently in charge at Broadcasting House are staying firmly impartial: Puff-Ta and the Gay Gordons are absolutely off limits, leaving the field clear for The Cabinet Collective's Its The Most Wonderful Government Of The Year to take the Christmas No 1 spot.
